The ECT facility is there to be used when the vehicle is loaded or towing. Basically, it lets the transmission stay in gear to a higher RPM than normal, reducing the number of automatic gear changes, cutting wear and tear, and improving performance.

What’s This Button Do? “Hub Lock”
Electronic FW “Hub Lock” Button. Some Landcruisers come with electronic free wheeling hubs. Don’t ask me why because I don’t know. They have got to be one of the stupidest things I have ever seen on a 4wd vehicle.
X Marks The Spot – 4wd Buttons
These 2 buttons do not do the same thing. The X indicates which differential will be locked when pressed.
What’s This Button Do? Locks Centre Differential
Locks Centre Differential. Vehicle: 200 series Land Cruiser and new model Prado. Full-time 4wd.
What’s This Button Do? H4 Button.
H4 Button. Vehicle: Some part-time Toyota Landcruisers.
What’s This Switch Do?
Front and Rear Diff Lock Switch. Vehicle: Toyota Landcruiser – Optional Extra
What Does this Button Do?
Rear Differential Lock Button. Should be used in conjunction with L4.
