Over the years, I’ve come across really good Armoured Vehicle modifications — and some really poor ones.

What gets me about the photo is that someone has gone to all the effort of building an armoured compartment, but there’s nothing in place if the securing clamp comes loose and the battery positive meets the armouring.
Also, there’s only one battery with no isolator. Two AGM batteries with individual isolators are generally standard fit for a VR7.
I’m hoping this isn’t the original fit — and that it’s ended up looking like this after a battery change. Especially as there’s no under-bonnet fire suppression system… again, standard fit. Normally.
The basics are that the positive terminals should be insulated to avoid contact with the vehicle body in the event the battery becomes loose. It’s one of the main causes of vehicles burning to the ground.
If, because of poor battery management, it’s necessary to change batteries on an armoured vehicle (or any vehicle), try to ensure they are the same type, shape, and size — and that no modifications need to be made to the clamp system or terminals.
