Electronically Controlled Transmission (ECT) and Up Armoured Cruisers

Published August 21, 2025 By Mick Farmer

ECT PWR LIGHT

“What’s that for and what does this do?” Questions regularly asked by candidates.

The ECT facility is there to be used when the vehicle is loaded or towing. Basically, it lets the transmission stay in gear to a higher RPM than normal, reducing the number of automatic gear changes, cutting wear and tear, and improving performance—like the PWR facility in other auto boxes.

As the typical AV Cruiser is well over the max GVW of its thin-skinned relative, it’s a good idea to have this on all the time.

It’s a green light on the dash (ECT PWR). Good to go.
